On Equilibrium

Welcome! My name is Nicolas Mäder, and I am currently an Assistant Professor of Economics at the University of San Diego School of Business.

My primary research interests lie in the fields of Macroeconomics and Macro-Finance with a special focus on financial crises. Methodologically, I enjoy the theoretical study of nonlinear dynamical systems and am particularly interested in questions relating to uniqueness, resilience, and ergodicity.

“Is the dynamical behavior described by the multidimensional generalisation of a single valley? Or is the dynamical landscape pockmarked with many different valleys, separated by hills and watersheds? If the latter, […] the system may return to this state following small perturbations, but large disturbances are likely to carry it into some new region of the dynamical landscape.”
